Temporary file sharing that cleans up after itself

Every ShareQuik share has an expiry date. After 3 days, or 15 if you extend it, the code stops working and the files are deleted from our servers.

  • 100 MB per share
  • 8-character code
  • 3 days, extendable to 15
  • No account

Permanent sharing links have a habit of outliving their purpose. A folder link sent once to a contractor can still work years later, long after anyone remembers it exists. Temporary file sharing avoids that by giving every share an end date.

ShareQuik doesn’t offer permanent links at all. Every share is temporary, and you can see exactly when yours expires as soon as the code is generated.

How ShareQuik works

  1. Step 1

    Add files or text

Drop files into the Share panel above, up to 100 MB in total, or paste up to 3,000 words of text.

  2. Step 2

    Generate a share code

Select Generate Code. ShareQuik uploads everything and shows a code like BX678095 that you can copy, text or read out.

  3. Step 3

    The recipient enters the code

On any ShareQuik page they type the code into the Find panel, enter an email address, and download the files.

Why temporary sharing is a good default

  • Less exposure over time

A code that leaks after the share expires is useless. The shorter the window, the smaller the risk.

  • No clean-up chores

You never have to go back and revoke old links or empty a shared folder.

  • Clear deadline for the recipient

Knowing the files disappear in a few days nudges people to download them now.

What happens to a share, step by step

  1. Created: you upload files or text and get a code. The panel shows the date the share is available until.
  2. Optionally extended: straight after generating the code, you can add your email address to keep the share for 15 days in total instead of 3.
  3. Expired: after the expiry time, entering the code tells the recipient the share has expired.
  4. Deleted: an automatic clean-up job runs every hour and permanently removes expired shares, their files and their text from storage.

Temporary isn’t the same as secret

Expiry limits how long a share can be opened, not who can open it. Until it expires, anyone with the code has access. For confidential files, combine a short-lived share with a password-protected archive, as explained in sending files safely without an account.

Remember too that a recipient who downloaded the files keeps their copy. Expiry removes ShareQuik’s copy, not theirs.

Frequently asked questions

How long do temporary shares last?

3 days by default, or 15 days if you extend the share with your email address right after creating it.

Can I make a share last longer than 15 days?

No. 15 days is the maximum. Upload the files again for a new code if you need more time.

Can I make a share expire sooner?

Not in the current version. Shares can be extended but not shortened or deleted early.

Are the files really deleted after expiry?

Yes. Expired shares, including their files and text, are removed from storage by an automatic job that runs hourly.
