Share files with a code
Add files below and select Generate Code. You get a code such as BX678095 that anyone can type into ShareQuik on any device, today or days from now, to download your files.
- 100 MB per share
- 8-character code
- 3 days, extendable to 15
- No account
Find
Enter a share code to access shared content.
The 8-character code from the sender: 2 letters, then 6 digits.
Code-based sharing replaces a long link with something short enough to read out or type by hand. Where tools differ is what happens behind the code. Many are live connections: the code only works while both devices are online at the same time, often for a few minutes.
A ShareQuik code points to files stored on the server. You can close the page as soon as the upload finishes, and the person with the code can download whenever suits them until the share expires: after 3 days by default, or up to 15 if you extend it.
How ShareQuik works
- Step 1
Upload and get a code
Add up to 100 MB of files (and text, if you like) and select Generate Code. The code appears as soon as the upload finishes.
- Step 2
Pass the code on
Text it, say it, write it down. The sender’s device can go offline; the files wait on ShareQuik.
- Step 3
Type it anywhere
On any device, the recipient types the code into Find. Lower-case letters, spaces and hyphens are tidied up automatically, so “bx 678-095” works.
What makes a ShareQuik code different
No need to be online together
Live pairing codes fail if the sender closes the app or the recipient is late. A ShareQuik code works for days, so the hand-off doesn’t need timing.
One code, many downloads
The same code works for everyone you give it to until the share expires, so a class or a team can all use it.
A fixed, readable format
Always two letters, then six digits. Because letters only appear in the first two places, an O is never mistaken for a 0 when someone copies the code from a screen across the room.
Guessing is shut down
After 3 wrong codes from one connection within 15 minutes, ShareQuik stops accepting more attempts from it for a while, so working through the 676 million possible codes isn’t practical.
When a code works better than anything else
From your phone to a shared or public computer
Type the code on a library, school or office PC instead of signing in to your email or cloud drive on it.
Over the phone
Read the code aloud to someone who needs the file. A link can’t survive being spelled out; eight characters can.
On a slide or whiteboard
Put the code on screen at the end of a talk or lesson and everyone in the room can fetch the handout.
When the recipient can’t pick it up straight away
Send the code tonight, and they download it tomorrow morning. No need to coordinate a live session.
Live codes and stored codes
Most code-based tools fall into one of two groups, and the difference decides which one fits your job:
- Live (peer-to-peer) codes connect two devices directly. Files never sit on a server, and there’s often no size limit, but both people must be online at once, and the code usually expires quickly.
- Stored codes, like ShareQuik’s, point to an upload. The sender can leave, and the code works for days, but there’s a size limit because the files are kept on a server until they expire.
If you are standing next to the recipient with a multi-gigabyte file, a live tool is the better choice. If the file is under 100 MB and the recipient might open it later, a stored code is simpler.
| Feature | ShareQuik | Send Anywhere (6-digit key) | ToffeeShare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Code or key | 8 characters (2 letters + 6 digits) | 6 digits | Link from a live session |
| How long it works | 3 days, extendable to 15 | 10 minutes, single use | Until the sender closes the tab |
| Sender must stay online | No | Yes, until the transfer | Yes |
| Size limit | 100 MB per share | Varies by plan and method | None stated |
Keeping a code-based share private
A code works like a key: anyone who has it can open the share until it expires. ShareQuik has no password option, so:
- send the code privately, not in a public post or group you don’t control;
- for confidential files, put them in an encrypted archive and share the password separately;
- keep the default 3-day expiry unless the recipient genuinely needs longer.
Frequently asked questions
Is the code case-sensitive?
You can type it in lower case. ShareQuik converts letters to capitals as you type and ignores spaces and hyphens, so “bx 678 095” finds the share BX678095.
Can I choose my own code?
No. ShareQuik generates a random code for every share, which keeps codes hard to guess.
Does the code work more than once?
Yes. It works for anyone who has it, as many times as needed, until the share expires.
What happens when the code expires?
Entering it shows that the share can’t be found, and the files have already been deleted. Create a new share to send them again.
