ShareQuik (“we”, “us”) operates the ShareQuik website and file-sharing service at sharequik.com. This page explains, in plain language, what ShareQuik stores, why, and for how long. ShareQuik has no user accounts, so we hold very little about you.
What we collect
- Content you upload: files, text and the optional title of a share, together with the share code and its expiry time.
- Email addresses you choose to give us: when you extend a share, when you download files from, or access, a share, and when you send feedback (along with your rating and message).
- Technical data: like any website, our servers receive your IP address and browser details with each request. Our web server and application logs record requests, including the IP address, the time, the address requested and the browser’s user-agent string. We also use IP addresses to rate-limit requests and prevent abuse, such as guessing share codes.
- Abuse reports: if you report a share, the reason you choose, any details and contact email you add, a one-way keyed hash of your IP address (not the address itself) and your browser’s user-agent string.
We do not ask for your name, and you never need an account.
Why we process this information
- To provide file sharing: storing shares and delivering their text and files to people who enter the share code.
- To operate and secure ShareQuik and prevent abuse, for example through rate limiting and server logs.
- To handle feedback, abuse reports and takedowns.
- For ShareQuik’s internal marketing purposes, in the case of email addresses entered to download files from, or access, a share, as described below.
How we handle what you share
To provide the service, ShareQuik stores the files, text and title you upload on its servers and processes them so that anyone who enters the share code can view the text and download the files until the share expires.
How long we keep it
- Files, text and titles: until the share expires, 3 days after it is created or up to 15 days if extended. An automatic job runs every hour and permanently deletes expired shares and their files.
- The email address used to extend a share is stored with that share and deleted along with it.
- Email addresses entered to download files from, or access, a share are kept permanently. They are not deleted when the share expires.
- Feedback (the email address, rating and message you send) is kept for 12 months after you send it, then deleted automatically.
- Abuse reports, including any action we took on them, are kept for 12 months after they are submitted, then deleted automatically. We keep them for that time so that we can investigate reports and recognise repeated abuse.
- Server logs (our web server and application logs) are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted automatically. This period applies to the logs ShareQuik’s servers write; it may not cover copies held elsewhere, such as backups.
How we use email addresses
Email addresses are never used to log in or to control access to a share; the share code does that.
- Email addresses entered to download files from, or access, a share: entering an email address is required to download files from, or access, a share. These addresses are kept permanently and are intended for ShareQuik’s internal marketing purposes.
- Other email addresses you give us, when you extend a share or send feedback, may in future be used to tell you about ShareQuik. We use a feedback address to reply to you.
ShareQuik does not currently send any emails. You can submit privacy requests through the contact page, and we will handle them as required by applicable law.
Who can see your shares
Uploaded files are kept in private storage and are not publicly listed or reachable by any permanent URL. They are delivered only through ShareQuik’s download step: after someone enters the share code and an email address, they get a download link that works for 10 minutes. Anyone who has a share’s code can open it until it expires, so only give codes to people you intend to share with.
Access by ShareQuik administrators
Authorized ShareQuik administrators can access the information needed to operate and moderate the service, investigate reports and handle takedowns. This includes share details (share codes, titles, text, file names and sizes), the email addresses described above, abuse reports and, where needed to investigate a report, the shared files themselves.
Cookies and analytics
ShareQuik does not set advertising cookies and does not load third-party analytics or tracking scripts.
Your choices
- You can share files without giving any email address. You only need one to extend a share or to download files from, or access, one.
- To make a privacy request, for example to ask what we hold about you, use the contact page. We will handle it as required by applicable law.
