How to transfer files online between devices

Online transfers work between any two devices with a browser, wherever they are. Here’s how they compare with cables, AirDrop-style sharing and cloud sync.

  • 100 MB per share
  • 8-character code
  • 3 days, extendable to 15
  • No account

Share

Add files and/or text, then generate a share code. At least one is required.

Files (optional, up to 100 MB total)

Drag and drop files here

or

Any file type · Up to 100MB total

Up to 3,000 words

Add files, text, or both to create a share.

Find

Enter a share code to access shared content.

The 8-character code from the sender: 2 letters, then 6 digits.

Online transfer means uploading from one device and downloading on another over the internet. It’s the most universal option, because it doesn’t care about operating systems, cables or whether the devices are in the same room. It isn’t always the fastest, though, especially for very large files.

How ShareQuik works

  1. Step 1

    Add files or text

Drop files into the Share panel above, up to 100 MB in total, or paste up to 3,000 words of text.

  2. Step 2

    Generate a share code

Select Generate Code. ShareQuik uploads everything and shows a code like BX678095 that you can copy, text or read out.

  3. Step 3

    The recipient enters the code

On any ShareQuik page they type the code into the Find panel, enter an email address, and download the files.

When an online transfer is the best choice

  • Different ecosystems

iPhone to Windows or Android to Mac, where built-in local sharing doesn’t work.

  • Devices in different places

Your phone at home and a computer at work, or a friend in another city.

  • Computers you don’t own

A library or office PC where you don’t want to sign in to personal accounts.

Transfer methods compared

Online transfer (ShareQuik)

Works anywhere with a browser and internet. Up to 100 MB per share on ShareQuik. Speed depends on your upload and download connections.

Local wireless sharing (AirDrop, Quick Share)

Fast and doesn’t use your internet data, but both devices must be nearby and usually from compatible ecosystems.

USB cable or external drive

Fastest for very large amounts of data, if you have the right cable and both devices are with you.

Cloud sync

Great for keeping your own devices in sync over time. Needs an account and enough storage, and initial syncing can be slow.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to transfer files between devices?

For large amounts of data, a cable or local wireless sharing is usually fastest. For a few files up to 100 MB, an online transfer is often quickest overall because there’s nothing to set up.

Can I transfer files between an iPhone and a Windows PC online?

Yes. Upload from Safari on the iPhone and enter the code in any browser on the PC.

Is transferring files online safe?

ShareQuik stores files privately and deletes them when the share expires, but anyone with the code can open it in the meantime. Don’t share the code publicly.
